“You don’t learn anything if you don’t at least give it a go,” Chris Bollins shrugged at the end of his run in the top ten during the second round of the 2009 Continental Tyres Australian Superboat Championships at Temora in NSW.

“We’re here to win at the end of the day, and the only way you’ll do that is to be competitive, and sometimes to be competitive you have to push the envelope and that’s what we did. Sadly for us it caught us out this time, but the boat’s still straight and we improved it constantly over the weekend so there’s a lot of positives to take away heading into the mid-point of the season.”

A trademark conservative start from Chris to assess the layout of the circuit led into four strong rounds where the popular young Queenslander narrowly trailed the categories most experienced teams; the Garlick’s [Mark and Jake] in Grumpy and reigning champion Brooke Lucas’ new Stingray Our Toy, the sister boat to Conti-Racer.

“To be hanging on to fourth with every round and be consistently quicker than Daniel James who placed third at Melton is a great start to the weekend,” team-boss John Bollins smiled. “We’ve made an improvement with every run, which is important, now it’s down to the top ten and a chance to make the final three.. We’ll see what gives.”

Sadly for Chris who was on target for a top four and potentially a top three, he just missed the apex at the top of the circuit at the mid point of his lap, throwing Conti-Racer up on to the opposite back and into retirement.

“Yeah it’s disappointing, but that’s racing. We’ve made some good improvements this weekend and will have a real good go at Griffith over Easter, beyond that though there’s a few surprises in store, but we’ll leave announcing those until we’ve got all our eggs in one basket, but stay tuned..” he grinned.

The Conti-Racer team now prepares for the third round of the 2009 Continental Tyres Australian Superboat Championships scheduled for Griffith in central-western NSW over the Easter weekend (April 10-11).
