No Fear driver Nick Percat has earned himself the inaugural Instrumental Music Australia Pole Position Award in qualifying for the second round of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship at Winton Raceway this morning.

Percat posted a fastest lap of 1min25.84sec nearly a second quicker than his fastest practice lap yesterday.

“Yeah I’m obviously pleased with pole here today,” the Mygale racer said.

“I probably didn’t the most out of the car which is good to know come race time because I know Chaz (Mostert) and Geoff (Uhrhane) will be fast and will be itching to get a jump on me,” he added.

Chaz Mostert in his Factory Enterprises Spectrum will line up next to Percat on the front row after he managed to run the 3.0km circuit in 1min26.14sec

“I’m pretty pleased with getting on the front row,” Mostert beamed.

“We were quicker towards the end of the session and were running a set up probably better suited to racing than qualifying so I’m pretty confident I can give Nick a run for his money.”

Sonic Racing’s Geoff Uhrhane rounded out the top three qualifiers in his Mygale, showing he also has the pace to take it to his teammate Percat in this afternoon’s opening race.

“There’s more in me and the car ... I didn’t get the most out of my tyres so I guess now it’s just a matter of getting a good start and trying to hang onto Nick ... which is never easy!” Uhrhane said.

CAMS Rising Star Scott Pye also performed well this morning qualifying fourth fastest while Minda Motorsport’s Ben Walter seems to have found some new speed and will line up on the third row of the grid in fifth place.

“A top six start was our aim this weekend so we’re on the right track,” Walter said.

“The racing’s going to be pretty competitive here because we’re all so even ... I think there’s about one second splitting the top ten which is about as close as it gets.”

Race one is scheduled for 1.05pm this afternoon, with races two and three to be held tomorrow.

The opening race of round two of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship will be telecast live during Channel 7’s V8 Supercar coverage on Saturday afternoon – check your local guides for times.
