Triple 8 launch 2010 Commodore, AND Mark Skaife!
Whilst Walkinshaw Racing made the first big news of the Supercar year with the first testing laps for the season, championship rivals and new Holden recruits Triple 8 launched their 2010 assault with not just the release of their new Vodafone liveried Commodores, but also an announcement on endurance drivers for later in the season...

As had been rumoured after the announcement late last season of Triple 8’s defection from the blue oval, Mark Skaife will line up against old team-mate Craig Lowndes, whilst two-time champion Jamie Whincup will be joined by former Fujitsu Series champion Steve Owen under the new Supercar rule of splitting the level one drivers for the endurance races.

Skaife showed at Bathurst last year alongside Greg Murphy that he had lost none of his customary speed, but for mind it is the Whincup/Owen combination that looks the goods for outright success, Owen more than capable of matching the two Triple 8 regulars in the same equipment. HRT will have to dig deep to match these combinations...

Schumacher takes doctor/physio to test
After his relatively high profile withdrawal from a Ferrari ride due to neck issues post the ‘09 Hungarian GP when the seven time world champion was scheduled to return to F1, many people were surprised by his announcement of a full-time return to the field with Mercedes.

Whilst all is calm on the surface, news from the Valencia pits was that Schumacher had come to the test with his personal doctor and physiotherapist, his doctor announcing to the media that.. “I’m superstitious, so we wait and see.”

Despite early concerns Schumacher was third fastest but completed just 40 laps, and was absent from the second day of testing with media reports suggesting he wasn’t due to test again until Wednesday.. Whilst he announced on Monday that he felt like it was 1991 all over again (the year of his F1 debut at Jordan), his 41 year old body may well have different ideas!
