“In keeping with its commitment to promoting Australian road racing at the highest level, International Entertainment Group (IEG) has advised that the Broadford round of the Australian Superbike Championship due to be contested on 3-4 July will now be integrated with the upcoming Queensland Raceway round on 19-22 August.
Despite a promising response, the required support within the ASBK State Cup classes for Broadford was not reached, making the event financially unfeasible. Though regrettable, after much consultation within the industry, IEG feels the decision is in the best interest of those involved - riders, teams and spectators.
In fairness to competitors in the scheduled championship classes - Superstock 1000 C and D, Superstock 600 and 125/250-Mono Grand Prix, a double-header round will be held at the 19-22 August event at Queensland Raceway.
All other classes will run as originally planned and an updated schedule will be provided in due course.
IEG will be releasing information on next year’s calendar and classes as soon as possible. Several discussions have taken place with Motorcycling Australia, riders (both privateer and factory) and sponsors. IEG believes the new direction will suit a more diverse range of competitors, whilst ensuring the current competitors have higher-profiled premier categories to compete in and or aspire to be in.”
