2010 Bathurst 12 Hour winner John Bowe was in an upbeat mood on Friday afternoon at Eastern Creek, following practice for the Dial Before You Dig Australian Six Hour.
The veteran driver is competing this weekend in the same BMW 335i in which he competed at Bathurst, alongside the car’s new owner Peter O’Donnell.
The pair ended Friday practice just half a second slower than the fastest of the Team Mitsubishi Ralliart Lancer Evo Xs.
“This is the car I won the Bathurst 12 Hour in this year, but I haven’t driven it since then,” said Bowe.
“During my first couple of laps in practice, it all came flooding back to me just how great a category this is.
“The cars are just brilliant to drive, the slide around, they just don’t have the grip that you’re accustomed to, it’s like racing was back in the day where you had to really look after the car.
“We know we won’t be as fast as the Lancers, but we’ll do our best.
“The car still has some electronic gremlins, it still hesitates when given full-throttle out of corners, but those problems are all part of production car racing.
"I think these long distance races are just what the category needs, and it's great to be here as a part of Peter's GWS team."
