Frustrating day for Osborne Motorsport
After a competitive opening practice day at Eastern Creek, and a long night to sort their twin Mazda 3 MPS Class C cars, Colin Osborne was confident they were as well prepared as they could have hoped heading into qualifying. Sadly post-qualifying the team was left with another long night of work after both cars were retired with different issues. “All yesterday they were right, and this morning they were okay as well,” Colin Osborne said at the close of the day. “Rick [Bates] set a strong qualifying lap, and then did a couple of cool down laps and the turbo went. We’ve been plagued with endless dramas with turbos on this car, we’re at a rate of about one turbo every 90 minutes, yet the other car has competed in a Targa Tasmania (2009), the 12-Hour earlier in the year and other events, all without missing a beat.

As for that car, it tore the engine mounts out of the bottom of the gearbox, but a bit of heli-coil work will fix that. Better I suppose that it happened now. With any luck we’ll be all sorted for tomorrow.
