Luff predicts conservative first stint
Having scored pole-position for the Dial Before You Dig Australian Six Hour, Warren Luff is predicting a conservative opening stint of the race.
The part-time V8 Supercar driver required just three flying laps to set the pole position time in Qualifying 1. Co-driver Stuart Kostera then had a brief run in the car, while neither driver needed to take to the track in Qualifying 2.
“We know that the track here gets a bit slower in the afternoon, so unless the session was run after around four o’clock when it starts getting quicker again, we wouldn’t have been able to go faster.
“We weren’t really too fussed anyway to be honest. Even if someone did knock us off, six hours is such a long time, it’s not important to start off pole.”
“It’s one thing to do a 20 or 30 minute session and check tyre wear, but it’s not the same as a full 70 or 80 minute race stint,” he said.
“We think we know what the right front tyre is going to do, but the right rear is the real unknown. No one will really know until the end of the first stint.
“It will be a race of attrition I think. You’ll see a few guys coming in with destroyed right front tyres.”
