[6-HOUR] Hour 5 Update
by Stefan Bartholomaeus
- Stuart Kostera and Warren Luff appear to be headed towards a convincing victory in the 2010 Dial Before You Dig Australian Six Hour, as they extended their lead to over two and a half laps during the fifth hour.
- Luff retook the controls of the Team Mitsubishi Ralliart when Kostera pitted on lap 130, as the team changed both front tyres.
- The second of the TMR Lancers, driven by Inky Tulloch and Steve Jones, continues to run in second position.
- The Peter Conroy/Mark Brame Evo runs third, ahead of the third of the TMR cars, with Greg Crimp having taken over from Mathew Cherry during the hour.
- The unofficial battle for top non-Mitsubishi honours continues between the GWS BMW 335i and the Johnson Window Films Subaru WRX. Barton Mawer had the WRX up to fourth position before its third pitstop, but ran sixth at the end of the hour - two laps and two positions behind Bowe in the BMW.
- The BMW 335i extended its Class B lead to over 14 laps during the fourth hour, as the Donut King HSV encountered mechancial issues, and the Century 21 FPV suffered a third rear puncture.
- The Tempest Air Evo IX continues to hold down seventh despite a spin from Jim Pollicina towards the end of his stint.
- The Class C battle continues to be the most exciting of the race, with Garth Duffy moving the GWS BMW 130i past Scott Nicholas in the Grand Prix Mazda 3 MPS to put both cars on the same lap at the end of the hour.
- Garry Holt pitted the Class D leading Astra with just over an hour of the race remaining, handing over to Ryan McLeod with a five lap lead over the window-less Disc Brakes Australia Honda Integra.
- The Bezcorp Security Toyota Yaris enters the last hour of the race in 20th outright, needing only a finish to win Class E.
