2011 Shannons Nationals calendar locked away

After initially setting their competition dates for the new season well prior to the end of 2010 calendar year, Shannons Nationals Series Director Rob Curkpatrick was forced to make a last minute adjustment to work around a change in the V8 Supercar schedule.
“We wanted dates out early so that people could start planning for the forthcoming season well in advance,” he confirmed. “But despite our best plans, we have had to tweak the schedule slightly.”
Ultimately movement in dates was a flow-on effect of the Formula 1 calendar, with the international dates affecting local series dates, which ultimately affected the proposed Shannons Nationals program.
“It wasn’t a big change, but in order to ensure we weren’t clashing with V8 Supercars who recently changed their West Australian date, we felt it prudent to make alterations to the Mallala date, which has now been changed to May 13-15. Fortunately for the Shannons Nationals, whilst there is some cross-over for some of our competitors and teams, we aren’t affected too badly, however there is a shortage of officials in some areas of the country, so we wanted to avoid any clashes there.
“Our job now is to finalise the categories that are set for each round of the championship. There’s lots of exciting news around the series this year, with some new categories coming into the Shannons Nationals, while some of our core categories have made forward steps too over the off-season break, so we’re looking forward to making announcements about all of that over the coming weeks.”
