[RADICAL] India launches new 'Super' Series

India has just released details of a new international motorsport series called the i1 Super Series - a novel single-make racing championship, designed specifically for Indian audiences.

India has just released details of a new international motorsport series called the i1 Super Series - a novel single-make racing championship, designed specifically for Indian audiences.

Nine teams stand for nine Indian cities, where two cars represent each team, one driver being a certified international competitor and the other a certified Indian driver, by mandate.

The i1 Super Series begins with the maiden season of 14 races held across India, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and Thailand. The nine teams and 18 drivers compete for the title of the i1 Super Car Champion. With prize money of $2 Million USD, the action promises to be both fast and furious.

The current nine teams are represented by two cars each- that’s 18 cars and 14 heart-stopping races.

The Radical SR3 RS 'supercar' has been selected after careful consideration about drivability and safety features. The Radical SR3 is renowned for its ability to allow even novice drivers to come up to speed quickly and safely. Single make cars have been chosen bearing in mind fair and balanced play, where victory goes to the skill and competence of the driver.

The Radical SR3 is a two-seater, powder–coated carbon steel frame chassis with integral safely cell and aluminum honeycomb front crash structure- complying with the FIA Production Sports Car Safety Structure Test. Other remarkable features of the car include:

Powertec 1500cc 4-cylinder double overhead cam engine, dry sump with remote oil reservoir and oil cooler.

• Engine performance: 210bhp+, 130ft/Ibs, 10,500rpm.
• Stainless steel manifold and silencer.
• 260mm dia. 25mm, 30-vane ventilated discs in front and rear.
• full Radical aero kit (diffuser/flat floor/splitter/wing)

Drivers in the series will pilot identical Radical SR3 RS 1500cc racing cars, fitted with paddleshift gearchange and racing-specification aerodynamics. Amongst the drivers approached about contesting the series are Indian racing stars Narain Karthikeyan, Karun Chandhok and Armaan Ebrahim, alongside F1 stars like Ralf Schumacher, Mika Hakkinen and Jarno Trulli.

The official launch of the i1 Super Series took place at the Trident Hotel, Mumbai, India, on Friday 5 August 2011, with Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar signed up as brand ambassador and advisor for the series, based on an IPL-style franchise-based format and scheduled to commence in December
