J-Mac Wiggle Wiggles To WSS Win
Rnd#3 Hi-Tec Oils World Series Sprintcars
Prior to this season James McFadden had never won a World Series Sprintcars A-Main, but three rounds into the 2011/2012 tournament the livewire Queensland based Northern Territorian has two victories under his belt from three starts.
The self confessed LMFAO (pop band) fan who’s favourite party song is “I’m sexy and I know it” got out of his #25 Totally Work wear Cool Chassis after a thrilling 30 lap A-Main victory at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway to ‘wiggle wiggle’ it in front the big crowd and celebrate it in style.
“It was a brutal track,” he grinned, “but Glen Beaton (crew chief) had the car dialled in perfectly and I could run pretty well anywhere I wanted. The highline came in and the track widened out, which made my job much easier.”
McFadden’s win was impressive for several reasons, one of which being he is still getting over injuries sustained in a big main event crash at Dubbo last Saturday night during Round Two.
“I’m sore, my shoulder in particular was giving me plenty of trouble. Pulling down the belts really gave me some pain. I’m glad we could hold on.”
Steven Lines made a welcome return to form in his new Monster Energy #7 J&J, rewarding the team and car owner Luch Monte (who made a surprise appearance from WA) for building up a new chassis after a disappointing first two rounds.
“It’s good to get some car speed back and to reward Buzzy, Tres and Monster Energy with a podium finish here at Mildura. I’m really pleased that Luch could come in and be a part of this too. Maybe now we can get back to more regular appearances on this podium and get a few wins.”
Jason Johnson recorded his second consecutive third place result in the Haynes Mechanical #47 Maxim but the result might have been dramatically different if the throttle stomping American had flipped after he slammed the wall in turn one late in the race.
“Man I hit that wall hard,” he admitted, “I was pretty lucky we didn’t hurt something on the car or turn it over because I really got in there hard. I did my best to get back into contention but you can’t afford to give these young guys any ground because you won’t get it back.”
Robbie Farr was the early race leader in the #7 East Coast Pipeline Maxim and despite a hole in the exhaust it didn’t look like much could derail the defending champion’s victory.
But that was until James McFadden and Steven Lines, and then eventually Jason Johnson came by.
“We went from first to fourth,” he grimaced, “I think we were too free getting into the corners which tightened me up midway through the turns. The car tended to get over on the right rear and drive up high out of the corner. James and Steve got me pretty easily and then Jason got by in the end. Pretty disappointing end really.”
Farr came home fourth ahead of Adelaide speedstar in the SA Lift Trucks QT Chassis in fifth, Luke Dillon in sixth driving the Hogs Breath Café Eagle, Ian Madsen in the Australia Wide Towing #11 in seventh (Ian suffered a burnt leg from a hot exhaust during the main) Bordertown’s Dylan Jenkin in eighth in the Gericke #51 Cool Chassis, South Aussie colourful character Ricky Maiolo in ninth driving the TRG Transport #24 Eagle and Dubbo’s Jeremy Cross rounding out the top ten.
Danny Reidy claimed eleventh despite a flat tyre in the Desert Palms Resort Eagle, talented South Aussie youngster Daniel Pestka came home in twelfth driving his Gawler Farm Machinery J&J, consistent Sydneysider Glen Saville was thirteenth, Brooke Tatnell was a disappointing fourteenth in the #1 Toyota Genuine Parts Cool Chassis, Trevor Green placed fifteenth (with front end damage) in the NATRAD #4 Maxim, Ryan Jones sixteenth in the Murray Machining & Sheds #63 and Mitchell Dumesny the last car running in seventeenth driving the Engine Armour #77 Maxim.
Brooke Tatnell and Mitchell Dumesny both suffered the same fate, tagging the infield tyre barriers and being sent to the rear for doing so.
David Murcott exited in spectacular fashion whilst running in the top four when he pulled a huge wheel stand on the main straight at a restart and the car turned hard right into the wall.
“The car’s bad,” explained Murcott’s crew chief Dave Sharman, “there’s a lot of damage.”
“I don’t know what happened,” mused Murcott, “I stood on the gas and the front wheels came up. The next thing I know I was into the wall and the car was badly damaged.”
