Final Entries Confirmed as Historic Commodore Event Looms
The final entries have been confirmed for this weekend's inaugural Commodore Cup endurance event at Mallala,South Australia.
2006 Commodore Cup champion Marcus Zukanovic will be partnered by current V8 Ute Series competitor Gary Baxter. Baxter is also a former Commodore Cup champion, having won the series in 1995 and 1996.
I've done plenty of laps in Commodore Cup cars and plenty of laps around Mallala, so I think I'll be up to the pace pretty quickly, Gary said. The Commodore Cup cars are nothing like V8 Utes, they're a lot more refined and a lot more like proper race cars, so it will be good to get back into the driver's seat.
Last year's Commodore Cup runner-up and current Fujitsu V8 Supercar competitor Brett Holdsworth will team up with his father Glen in the TTM Racing Commodore. Brett was originally going to be joined by his V8 Supercar round-winning brother Lee, but unfortunately the event clashes with the Bahrain round of the V8 Supercar championship.
There's a bit of a height difference between Brett and me, Glen said, so we might need to use some padding to make sure I'm comfortable in the car. It should be fun; we're going to go out and try hard to win it.
Ross McGregor will be driving the #1 car this weekend rather than his familiar #99. The numerical change comes thanks to his co-driver, the defending champion Geoff Emery, who has the rights to the #1 plate.
Four Northern Territory cars are also entered for the event. David and Steven Ling will pair up, while Alan Langworthy will share his VH Commodore with Andrew McInnes. Geoff Cowie and Brian Agostini will drive together, and Ryan Millier, the chief mechanic on Michael Caruso's V8 Supercar, will be joined by fellow Garry Rogers Motorsport employee Matt Chick.
