DRIFT CUTS BACK FOR 2009
Drift Australia has announced that its 2009 championship will consist of a single event, to be held at Sydney's Oran Park Raceway on 19-20 September.

The news follows Toyo Tyre & Rubber Australia Limited's withdrawal as naming rights sponsor in light of the current global economic climate.

A five-round Australian Drift Championship was due to commence in February.

Planning for the resumption of a full Drift Australia Series in 2010 continues.

Toyo Tyre & Rubber Australia Limited:
"Toyo Tyre & Rubber Australia Limited will regretfully not be participating as the naming rights sponsor for the Drift Australia Series for 2009 as a direct result of the current global financial situation.

"We have been proud to be the Naming Rights sponsor for the Drift Australia Series since its inception in 2006.

"This is a decision that Toyo Tyre & Rubber Australia Limited is reluctant to make, but we consider that it is imperative from the perspective of corporate responsibility in relation to our stakeholders.

"We will continue to take a close interest in the development of the sport here in Australia and will be reviewing our position in terms of sponsorship in subsequent years."

Drift Australia director Wayne Boatwright:
"Toyo has been a terrific partner of the Drift Australia Series and we appreciate their support.

"Unfortunately the global economic climate has seen Toyo scale back their Australian marketing activities significantly, and without a naming rights sponsor, a multi-round televised series simply isn't viable in 2009.

"Drift Australia would like to thank our competitors, sponsors, fans and other stakeholders for their ongoing support.

"We will continue to proceed with plans for a full Drift Australia Series in 2010."
