Future secure for Australian Manufacturers Championship

The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) is delighted that an arrangement for the Australian Manufacturers Championship has been established for 2009, with CAMS retaining the overarching responsibility for the category, particularly the sporting and technical regulations.

The decision will allow CAMS to stabilise the administration of the category from what was a relatively informal arrangement in 2008 to a more transparent structure that caters to the needs of all stakeholders.

Under the new arrangement the category will be rebranded and will consist of new race formats. Working in partnership with the Production Car Association of Australia as the category administrator, CAMS is now focused on firmly establishing the category on the national calendar.

Accordingly, CAMS will commit to playing a lead role in managing the sporting and technical regulations component, as well as the provision of a race director/CAMS representative at each round of the Championship.

In 2009 the Australian Manufacturers Championship, incorporating the Australian Production Car Championship, will consist of five rounds as a part of the Shannons Nationals Motor Racing Championships. CAMS aims to grow participation in the category and broaden its appeal to more accurately reflect the domestic motor car market.

“This decision is important to CAMS in the long term to maintain the integrity of our regulations and to instil confidence for more manufacturers to join the category,” said CAMS CEO Graham Fountain.

“The ultimate objective is that any model of vehicle on the Australian domestic market that complies with the technical criteria should be eligible to compete in the Australian Manufacturers Championship. “The proposed operational arrangement for 2009 reflects CAMS commitment to returning the Production Car category to its pride of place on our national motor sport calendar.”
