[V8SB] Aussies set for World Titles
Australia might be fielding a conservative number of entries in the 2012 UIM World Jet Sprint Championships scheduled for New Zealand this February, but whilst numbers are down, there is still every chance that both the Unlimited Superboat and Group A titles will be coming back to Australia..
[V8SB] Triple X dominates Group A
By the time the final race of International Group A for the 2011 Tyreright Australian Superboat Championships came around, you could have been forgiven for feeling a touch nostalgic, with the very same title contenders from 2010 lining up for a title fight, one more time.
[V8SB] Finch takes Unlimited title #2
How is it that with every passing year of V8 Superboats, the series provides an even bigger spectacle than the season before.. The 2011 Tyreright Australian Superboat Championships was no different, with two of the three classes again undecided until late on the final day of competition at Hi-Tec Oils Park in Temora (October 29-30).
It’s all come down to this.. again! For the second season in succession, the Tyreright Australian Superboat Championships will be decided at the final round, with Hi-Tec Oils Park at Lake Centenary in Temora [central-western NSW] hosting the season finale on October 29-30.
Last season there were three drivers in with an outright chance of victory in the hotly contested, strictly governed International Group A [400 Class] category, and two of the drivers that battled for the title win - with the victor taking the title by a solitary point - going head-to-head once more; Melton’s Triple X team-mates, and brothers, Ted and Darek Sygidus.
[V8SB] Mullan takes maiden home win
In almost perfect conditions, and in front of a strong local crowd, Melton’s Phonsy Mullan finally broke through for his maiden V8 Superboat win at home after surviving what in the end had been an event of high attrition.
Set to the single day format of the AFJSA Cup, Melton made it’s return to the annual calendar after an absence of almost two years thanks in a big way to the motivation of ‘Jackhammer’s’ Jody Ely and his team, and a number of other local teams who were all intent on running again on home soil.
The 2011 Tyreright Australian Superboat Championships continued after a lengthy mid-season break, returning to Cabarita, the very venue that turned the championship on its ear last time around.
Back in June, championship favourites Dean Finch (Unlimited Superboat) and ‘Triple X’ (400 Class) had a weekend they would all much rather forget. Even runaway 350 Class points leader Daniel deVoigt failed to win the round, although he did extend his points lead as race-winner Mark Garlick (2008 champion) was only back in the seat for [at that stage] one round.
You could feel the tension in the air.. it wasn't immediately evident, well how could it be, this was the 99 Psycho Clowns outfit - arguably one of the most professional teams in Australian motorsport, a team where fun is the key, yet behind all the broad smiles, and the in-jokes, was a level of quiet uncertainty...
[V8SB] Hi-Tec supports V8 Superboats
Hi-Tec Oils is no stranger to V8 Superboats having supported Brooke Dixon’s True Blue Racing entry over the last 12 months, as well as the Temora V8 Superboat facility, so it was no great surprise that when the opportunity came to further invest in the sport, Australia’s largest independent oil manufacturer stepped up and committed to the 2011/2012 seasons.
[V8SB] Three down, three to go..
We might be into the eighth month of the season, but we’re only at the half-way mark of the 2011 Tyreright Australian Superboat Championships and we’re about to come out of a lengthy mid-season break to tackle round four at Cabarita later this month (August 27-28).

After the season opening double-header at Temora over Easter, the big question on everyone’s lips was whether anyone could stop former champion Dean Finch from dominating the Unlimited Superboat class.. As it turns out, not only did the opening event of the season on the Cabarita Beach - Tweed Coast layout play havoc with the Unlimited Superboat championship points table, it played havoc with just about everyone entered.
[V8SB] Heading north for the winter

[V8SB] Triple X take title #2!
Triple X started the 2010 Continental Tyres Australian Superboat Championships as firm favourites for the International Group A (400 Class) title, yet despite dominating the opening round (funnily enough at the very same venue – Temora), they almost looked to be doing everything in their power to avoid winning the championship with a litany of ‘little’ issues during the middle of the season…

[BOATS] Unlimited; tight at the top
Coming into the third round of the Continental Tyres Australian Superboat Championships at Cabarita Beach [July 10-11], no one team had stamped their authority on the series despite some early pre-season favourites. For a number of drivers, Cabarita couldn’t arrive quickly enough after a mid-season break of some 14 weeks left many desperate to get back on the water, and it showed.. 47 entries was a series record, and there were still a number of 2009 teams still sitting on the sidelines.
[BOATS] Triple X on top at Cabarita
SGA Engineering’s Darek Sygidus put himself back into the 400 Class series lead during the third round of the Continental Tyres Australian Superboat Championships at Cabarita Beach after defeating brother Ted in the final. The win also sets up the potential for the mother of all showdowns in the final round; should Ted take maximum points during the remaining rounds, he will JUST beat his younger brother, however should Dezi win just two more heats (from six), the duo will finish equal on points. If he wins another final, the championship will be his..
The International Group A class in the 2010 Continental Tyres Australian Superboat Championships is fast becoming a two horse race, however in this case, the battle is mounting not between two bitter rivals, but between two brothers; Ted and Darek Sygidus.
After campaigning much of the 2009 Continental Tyres Australian Superboat Championships with an ‘experimental’ engine to assess for the future of the 350 Class, and therefore not be eligible for championship points, Shepparton’s [VIC] Daniel James was champing at the bit to get a start on the 2010 season and show that he had championship winning potential.
Despite a frustrating and firey start to their debut season in the Unlimited Superboat class, Greg ‘Crusty’ and Dorinda ‘Mrs Crusty’ Mercier came into the third round of the national championship full of anticipation for what they hoped would be a return to form.

2009 had been a mixed year for the ‘toughest’ team in V8 Superboats, and 2010 has so far proven frustrating for the boys from Melton. Last year the season dawned with Ted Sygidus primed and ready to tackle Group A after team leader and reigning Australian Group A champion Phonsy Mullan moved to the Unlimited Superboat class.

In the elite Unlimited Superboat class pre-event favourite and reigning world title holder Peter Caughey was always expected to set the pace, but unlike his 2008 title, his advantage was kept to just tenths of a second forcing him to dig deep to face the local onslaught
Heading into the 2009 UIM World Jetsprint Championships there were two great unknowns; one was the possible performance of Phonsy Mullan’s awesome 1600hp supercharged LS7 powered Unlimited Superboat, and two, was whether Triple X Racing’s Ted Sygidus could take the fight to arch-rival Slade Stanley for the Group A world title.
[BOATS] World #2 & #3 for True Blue
