[ALMS] Audi to contest Petit Le Mans
For the first time since its victorious debut at Sebring in March, the technologically innovative Audi R15 TDI will again compete in an endurance race in the USA: On September 26, Audi Sport Team Joest will contest the 1000-mile "Petit Le Mans" race, which is part of the American Le Mans Series, at Road Atlanta (Georgia) with two cars.

The sixth round of the 2009 AUTOBACS SUPER GT series, the 38th INTERNATIONAL Pokka GT SUMMER SPECIAL, was held on August 23 at the Suzuka Circuit (one lap 5.807km x 121 laps) in Mie Prefecture. The winner of the GT500 class was the KRAFT SC430 driven by Hiroaki Ishiura and Kazuya Oshima.

Satoshi Motoyama won his third straight GT500 class pole position after Round 2 at Suzuka and Round 3 at Fuji Speedway.
At 9:30 p.m. the race at Le Mans for the Audi R15 TDI with start number two ended. Lucas Luhr left the track entering the Porsche Curves and slammed heavily backwards into the tyre wall. Although the German still tried to bring the car back to the pits, the stewards, however, prohibited Luhr, who shared the cockpit of the diesel sportscar with Mike Rockenfeller and Marco Werner, to return to the track for safety reasons because the car was losing oil.

Although Audi Sport Team Joest concentrated exclusively on preparing for the race throughout qualifying for the 77th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of the three Audi R15 TDI starts from the front row for the French endurance classic on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

The new GT3 sports car of AUDI AG successfully passed the ultimate endurance test: In the fastest 24-hour race the Nürburgring has ever seen, all four Audi R8 LMS cars that started to the race crossed the finish line. Christian Abt, Jean-François Hemroulle, Pierre Kaffer and Lucas Luhr (Team ABT Sportsline) clinched an unexpected second place in front of 235,000 spectators (throughout the weekend) and grabbed victory right away in the GT3 class for the Audi R8 LMS at its first 24-hour run.

From the outset, AUDI AG’s new GT3 sports car is the car to be beaten at its maiden run in the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring. On Sunday morning, sixteen hours into the race, the three Germans Marc Basseng, Mike Rockenfeller and Frank Stippler in the Audi R8 LMS #99 of the Phoenix Racing team were running about two minutes in front of the Porsche that was victorious last year.

The FUJI GT 400km RACE, Round 3 of the 2009 AUTOBACS SUPER GT series, took place at Fuji Speedway (one lap 4.563 km x 88 laps) in Shizuoka Pref. on May 4. The GT500 class winner was the pole-starting MOTUL AUTECH GT-R driven by Satoshi Motoyama and Benoit Treluyer, bringing the team its first victory of the 2009 season.
Round 3 of the 2009 AUTOBACS SUPER GT, took place at Fuji Speedway (one lap 4.563 km) in Shizuoka Pref. on May 3. For the second consecutive round, the MOTUL AUTECH GT-R driven by Satoshi Motoyama took the Pole Position (fastest qualifier) in the GT500 class and will start from the front row in the race on the 4th.

The four Audi R8 LMS cars fielded by Phoenix Racing and ABT Sportsline made a strong impression in the dress rehearsal for the 24-hour race around the Nürburgring.
